A beautiful day out at Wild Wood in Devon!

As a family of four, we were spending our last holiday time together in Lyme Regis in Devon. our accommodation was from Toad Hall Cottages which we booked via their website.

Lyme Regis is a seaside town; with lots to offer. (Especially if you are a keen fossil hunter or you have children who love combing beaches and swimming in the bays.)

We were excited to have a day out away from the fantastic beaches at a wild life park, which was only a 35-minute drive away from our stay. After a warm welcome from the reception, we chose to do the Trail (which was an additional £3) which promised a prize at the end on completion. It also had a handy map and key points of the park to visit so you got to see all of the animals and didn’t miss out.

On entry into the park, we visited a pretty impressive replica of a Saxon village. We had a look inside the small houses and watched some of the demonstrations of jewelry making and campfire cookery.

Next stop was through a hedge maze, to try a reach the platform in the middle. This maze was challenging enough and had us twisting and turning, keeping us trapped inside for a good 20 minutes! Whilst walking through the maze, we could hear the zip line over the hedge; and you can guess where we ended up after!

Next to the zip line was a spacious indoor soft play and a small ice cream and refreshment kiosk, which was also a decent spot for a picnic.

The highlight of our visit was being on the bear platform and being able to view Micha and Lucy root around for food in their enclosure. This was also enhanced by the bear keeper giving a talk on the bears, and their new friends who were being slowly introduced to the pair. You had to view the newer bears from a separate area and it was fun to watch them taking a bath in their pond.

Other fantastic spotting’s of animals included: the pack of wolves, artic foxes, owls and wild boars!

We happily stayed for over four hours exploring and enjoying the wildlife, our time was also delayed waiting for our youngest to pluck up the courage to go down the large drop slide!

I would recommend Wild Wood for a family day out. There are lots of places for children to burn off their energy and equally it is a nice relaxing walk around the animal areas. We were lucky to be gifted a ticket, but the prices of entry are competitive and value for money for a family day out. There is also an option to upgrade for an annual pass.

Pros: Affordable prices in the gift shop and kiosk.

Cons: The otters and Red Squirrels were not there to see
